my
way - PRIZE WINNER 2002: Brigitte Bardot
The
world famous star had tears in her eyes, as she
held the my way prize in her hands, to the
thunderous applause of hundreds of guests of
honor at the prize presentation on May 25, 2002
in the banquet hall of the village of Hagenbrunn.
"This is a fantastic honor that I would
never have dreamt of," she said to the
provincial head, Erwin Pröll, "and I thank
all Austrians who have chosen me. This prize
represents great hope for the future of
animals." At the press conference, she said,
"The my way prize is more important to me
than an Oscar."
The
world famous star established the "Brigitte
Bardot Foundation" in Paris with the goal to
help animals throughout the world. Her reason
was, "What happened to us humans that we
don`t even respect animals?", and she
herself lead the way. She converted her villa in
Saint Tropez into a private zoo, and donated a
great deal of her money to the foundation. Due to
her famous name, no one could stop her to present
her cause, again and again, neither the goverment
in Paris nor the presidents of other countries.
And her methods were often quite unconventional.
Brigitte
Bardot never talks much, she always acts
intuitively, full of passion without
consideration of the opinion of animal haters.
She says, "Animals are man´s best friend,
and they depend on us. Throughout the world, we
have brutally deprived them of their natural
habitat. That is why it is our duty to
recompensate them with love and respect. What
remains for us, what remains for our children, if
we do not help these creatures?"
